The first European Universities Winter Championships started

The Opening Ceremony of European Universties Winter Sports Championship 2023 took place on 18.12.2023 in Italy at Val di Zoldo, Province of Belluno, Dolomites.

This inaugural European Universities Winter Championship, welcomed 45 universities from 20 countries, to be competing in Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Volleyball.

The Ceremony was attended by the Val di Zoldo Major, Mr Camillo De Pellegrin, the Ca’ Foscari University Dean’s delegate, professor Giorgiostefano Bertinetti, and other distingushed guests.

On behalf of the Organising Committee participants were welcomed by Mr. Massimo Zanotto, Organizing Committee and CUS Venezia President, showcasing special proudness in being the local organizers of the very first EUSA European Universities Winter Championships and wished all the athletes the best of luck.

EUSA 1st Vice President, Mr Haris Pavletič welcomed all participants and wished lots of success and fair played races and matches to all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities, while also thanking the Organising Committee and EUSA staff for all their contributions.

The Championships that are taking place from 18.12 to 21.12 in Val di Zoldo Ski Area, one of the top Dolomites ski areas, were then officially opened.

The oaths on behalf of the athletes and referees were also given. 

The competition is organised by CUS Venezia with the contribution of Prvince of Belluno and Municipality of Val di Zoldo. CUS Venezia comes from several years of organization of the Italian University Championships in the same venue, in close cooperation with local stakeholders.       

                                                

At the the Championships, EUSA is represented by EUSA SCAC Chairs, Mr Haris Pavletic and Mr Francis Cirianni and the Technical Delegates: Anton Fichtinger (Snow Volleyball), Alberto Pecere (Alpine Skiing) and Flavio Agostini (Snowboarding).

EUSA is also represented with the presence of EUSA Secretary General, Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan, EUSA Executive Committee Memebers and EUSA Office Staff. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems.

Today the event welcomed athletes, officials, organizational staff, and volunteers, in the amazing atmosphere of the beautiful mountain setting of the Dolomites, to compete and enjoy other social activities. We are expecting three days full of competitive spirit, victories, new memories and great results.

Before the Opening Ceremony of the Championship, the General Technical Meeting for the three sports were held, having the Technical Delegates, EUSA Sports Manager and representative from the Organizing Committee, sharing important information with the present officials and athletes, as well as hosting the draws from Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Volleyball.

Tommorow EUSA will also host the EUSA Winter Forum, focusing on sustainability.
