The EUSA EUWC 2023 have entered the heart of the competitions. Today, on December 19, the races began, and the first 6 medals were awarded in men's and women's Alpine skiing, Slalom discipline.
The racecourse, located on the Cristelin Alta track in the Val di Zoldo Ski Area, saw over 60 slalom skiers from various European universities battling it out this morning.
Among the women, success for the Polish athlete Maja Chyla, from the Jagiellonian University of Krakow, who posted the best time in both runs, for a total of 1:30.21, putting her ahead of Bulgarian Julia Zlatkova (Technical University Sofia, +1.28) and Italian Anna Rech, from the University of Udine (+1.31).
In the men's category, the gold goes to the Bulgarian Kamen Zlatkov (Technical University Sofia), already leading after the first run, who managed to withstand the comeback of the Armenian Gleb Mosesov (Armenian State University of Economics), settling for second place at +0.48 seconds. Third is Jan Sanitrar from Slovakia (Technical University Zvolen) at 3.58.
The first day also marked the debut of snow volleyball, with the start of the men's and women's tournament. On the field set up by the organizers in Pecol di Zoldo near Baita Ru, all 11 teams battled it out today.
For the men, there are 6 teams: University of Klagenfurt (Austria), UCT Prague (Czech Republic), Bucharest University of Economy (Romania), University of Milan, Technology University Darmstadt (Germany), IUAV University of Venice. After 2 rounds, Austrians and Germans lead with a perfect score, Milan is fourth, and Venice closes the provisional standings.
In the women's category, there are 5 teams: University of Vienna (Austria), Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Bucharest University of Economy (Romania), University of Milan - Bicocca, Lavoslav Ruzicka Vukovar (Croatia). The partial ranking after 2 rounds sees Austrians and Venetians in the lead with 4 points, Milan - Bicocca is fourth with 2.
